Where's the Fridge?

Where's the fridge you ask?!?!

Well...it's in the kitchen where it belongs! What a silly question! :)

Our friends from Sears has to remove our back door entirely, take off both doors and drawers to the fridge and freezer, remove all the wiring to the doors, and take off the kick-plate at the bottom. After two trips up the stairs, then back down again to figure out a better way...it's in! Slightly slanted due to our 80 year old floors...but hey...it's a step in the right direction!

Project #1: The Big Reveal

Here it is!

See the nifty green light buttons...it's on. That's means...I'm doing laundry...in my very own house!!!

Brought to you by Mom and Dad K...a HUGE thank you to you both! What a housewarming treat! Just what we needed! (ok...and thanks to the guys from Sears for carrying them in and hooking them up!)

I thank you! Michael thanks you! The environment thanks you! (Note the energy efficient, water saving front loader-rated #1 by Consumer Reports!) And from time to time Blake will thank you for his fresh and clean bed! (and then we'll thank you again because it'll smell better in here afterwards! hehe) And while I'm busy saying my "thank yous" I'm going to throw in there...you'll thank you too...because let's face it...these babies will allow you to have clean sheets and towels when you come to visit. So? When are you coming? Had enough helping us out yet?!

Anyone want to visit us? We'll have clean sheets and towels for you! Anyone?

Of course...on to the pictures. Note the Blake is busy sniffing out the new noise/vibration maker in the house. He's not quite sure what to make of it. Clearly he knows I'm super excited about this new addition, but he doesn't get why. Frankly he's right...why am I so excited about this?!?!

p.s. Mike from Sears says "Nice work to your husband on leveling the platform...oh and thanks for letting us go through his stuff for the drill bit we needed." Let's hope everything was returned! :)

Living Room-In Progress

A little sneak peak into the living room's transformation. It's coming along. Our LARGE Ikea bookshelf/cabinet things look pretty darn oversized in the living room compared to our old living room. We played around with them a bit and separated the whole "entertainment unit" into separate parts. I think this is better. Certainly not what I would pick out for this room...but serves a purpose and allowed me to unpack about 15 boxes of stuff! Notice only about 5 boxes left in the living room, two in the office, and a couple in the basement. Not bad!

What do you think? Proportions aren't great...but can we live with it? I think so!

Project #6: Closet Shelving

This was the project I mentioned starting late on Sunday evening...and after a series of mishaps, it is just getting completed now.

So...my 16.5 x 44" closet shelves are made out of particle board purchased at Home Depot. (Thank you Mom and Dad K! Thank you nice men at Home Depot who put up with our back and forth on what to buy and how to have it cut...and then cut it for us!)

Anyhow...the shelves work out great! One downside-sweaters stick to it and get pulled when you move them. Never fear...we have a solution for that! It's called...FABRIC! Sunday night I went off in search of Jo Ann. Like Michael's and AC Moore, I believe Jo Ann soon top my list of most favorite places! Below is the lovely fabric I selected for my shelves. Love the pattern! Love the pop of green! My closet is going to be so chic!

I bought enough fabric to cover my shelves, a shiny new staple gun, and some fabric scissors. As soon as I got home I laid out my fabric, brought down my shelves and laid everything out. After some discussions with the hubby-I realized I'd planned this all wrong! Yup-mishap #1. He said I should cover all sides of the shelves, both top and bottom so they look nice underneath, and sweaters don't get damaged when they stack touches the top of the next shelf. See he knows I'll add to my stacks until they are stuffed! :P

Sadly at this point it was too late to go back to the store so I put off the project for a bit and of course moped about it all night. Monday night after work...after meeting the plaster guy at the condo...after returning the old modem to Comcast...I finally headed home at 8:30pm. I figured...stop by Jo Ann and pick up more fabric. So...I stopped, picked up the fabric and headed to the cutting counter only to realize it was a different color. Nope...not a different dye lot...actually a different color. So similar, but not quite the same. Bummer. Of course, they didn't have more of one fabric I wanted, so I decided to go with the new fabric. After laying it out, we realized there wasn't enough of that one either! So...they called around for me, found another store that had my original fabric, waited on hold for HOURS only to find out that the people at the other store couldn't find the fabric. So...no fabric at all!

I left the store with all I'd come with...and the same inability to complete my project. Sad.

SO...yesterday I decided to go home by way of the other fabric store. After a long wait I finally got my fabric cut to side. While I was waiting I had an epiphany or maybe it was two!! How would my fabric stick to the board and not droop without using some...wait for it...spray adhesive! AND...what's with the mini-staple gun I'd already purchases? Too girly I decided (or perhaps someone else suggested my purchase was too wimpy-just saying), so...I exchanged it for a larger more powerful, black, shiny staple gun!

So...after extra measuring, a little trial and error, my first experience using a staple gun...my shelves are complete!

Project #1 Revisted

Project #1 has been completed. At long last (not that there was any immediate rush because our Washer/Dryer can't be delivered until Friday) Michael has completed the platform. Here he, is proudly displaying his handiwork.

He also removed the odd, unstable shelf under the window and cleaned up the area a bit as well.

Master Bedroom Part 1: New Bedding

Part 1: New Bedding. Do you like all the different textures and shades of browns/earth tones? Is it too much?

Part 1a: Note that our bed is no longer on the floor! That's right...I found some shady guy selling new queen sized split box spring on Craigslist. He claims it's a real business...but I'm not convinced. But hey they were half the price and brand new...and if we don't like them, they'll go into the guest room and we'll get new "real" box springs. Sorry Moms and Dads...I swear they are fine! We've been sleeping on them for several nights and personally I think they do the job well! Don't let this deter you from coming to visit us!

Part 2, 3, 4, etc...will include making an upholstered headboard (yes you read that correctly-I have BIG plans!), window treatments, real matching furniture, and paint...in time.

We moved the bench (used to be in our entryway) to the bedroom at the end of our bed. Also note our real Turkish rug...carried all the way from Turkey! Compliments of Mom and Dad K! Thank you! (Thinking I might want a more contemporary rug in our bedroom eventually and maybe move this to the entryway. Thoughts?)

p.s. Dad K thinks we should consider moving the bed elsewhere and using the window area as a little sitting/reading area. Thoughts? I'm open to any and all suggestions!

Coming Soon...As Soon As I Can Locate My Camera Cord

Until then...a written teaser about the past weekend. It included lots of home-owner things people do, such as:

1. Sweeping the front porch, front stairs, back porch, and sidewalk. Much better now!

2. Finishing Project #1

3. Beginning Project #6--of course at the end of Sunday which meant it couldn't be completed. Bad planning on my part! 

4. Donating unused and unwanted items. Wahoo!

5. Enjoying an amusing performance of Young Frankenstein at the Boston Opera House....after which we discovered that absolutely everything closes down before 10pm in our new town. So sad we resorted to picking up a little ice cream treat at the gas station! HA!! Good idea at the time...not so good idea afterwards. 

6. Other things I can't remember right now...

7. Bonding with our new neighbors. 

8. Oh and an unplanned trip to New Hampshire to fight the crowds in order to buy water. Yes that's correct...water. If you don't know what I'm talking about...you must not have heard about the "Catastrophic Water Main Break in Weston, MA."
